COMMONLY ASSUMED

Six things people get wrong.

Tap any card to turn it over.

Commonly assumed

"Sterile water and bacteriostatic water are the same thing."

Tap to turn
Actually

Sterile water contains nothing but water. Bacteriostatic water carries 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth after the vial is opened. One is spent after a single draw. The other is not.

✓
Commonly assumed

"The diluent does not really affect the result."

Tap to turn
Actually

Whatever you reconstitute with becomes part of every measurement that follows. Its grade, its batch and its documentation are as much a part of the record as the compound itself.

✓
Commonly assumed

"A Certificate of Analysis is something you request afterwards."

Tap to turn
Actually

Every lot here has a batch-specific COA issued before release, and it travels with the order. Paperwork that arrives weeks later, if at all, is not traceability.

✓
Commonly assumed

"Buy the smallest size, it is cheaper."

Tap to turn
Actually

Smaller vials mean more of them across one study, which means more lot numbers to track and more paperwork to reconcile. The right size is the one your bench gets through within the opened shelf life.

✓
Commonly assumed

"Water is water. Suppliers are interchangeable."

Tap to turn
Actually

The water is the easy part. What separates suppliers is whether the lot on the vial matches the lot on the paperwork, and whether either still exists six months later.

✓
Commonly assumed

"Once a vial is opened the rest has to go."

Tap to turn
Actually

True of plain sterile water. Not of this. The preservative plus a self-sealing butyl stopper means the same vial serves repeated reconstitutions from one documented lot.
